Mk1 Golf Shell - SOLD
This Shell is now Sold - Thanks for the Interest.
Here we have a blasted, and painted completely rot free Mk1 Golf bodyshell.
I understand that new shells are not available anymore, and shells in this condition are as rare as really really rare things.
This would be ideal to re-build an accident damaged or rusty car into, or to scratch build a custom project.
When we say bare shell - thats what we mean, not a nut bolt or washer fitted. The perfect blank canvass for anyone wanting to build something very special.
In the Photos above you can see the basic stripped car being sand blasted to remove all traces of rust. To be honest the car is in far better condition than expected, with only very minor rust to the rear arches (new welded sections installed), and the rear valance (new welded section).
The engine bay had many unused holes welded up for a smoother look popular on the VW scene.
One very solid basis for a project.
The Green primer is a self etch acid primer to resist rust, followed by the beige 2k primer below.
As you can see the underside is also painted following blasting.
If you know then engine bay on one of these cars you can tell the huge amount of smoothing work that has been completed.
This was scheduled to be a concourse type car before the customer ran out of money.
The car has been sitting under cover for some time now, and the decision has been made to sell the car. The customer for whom this was built owed us over £1100, and we are looking to recover this from the sale of the shell. Given the work completed this is a bargain. It was painted in a brown rust proofing on the primer whilst it waits for the project to be complete.
The fuel filler was relocated from the outside to inside the boot for a smooth look, although this has been cut out now. There are two dented sections above the rear arches where new arches were fitted. No filler has been done on this car. It is ready for a bodyshop to take over. 1 front door and bonnet included in the sale.

The above pictures show the car as it is now in April 2009, in Brown gloss waterproofing coat, and with its cover removed.
AGE OF SHELL
We were told by the customer for whom this was built that it was a 1973, but it appears that since they were not built until 1974 onwards this in unlikely to be true! There were some discussions about the rear end, but to be honest we do not know enough about VW’s to understand. Its definitely a Mk1.
The chassis number is located on the drivers side front tower, which indicates it to be between 1974, and 1980 in age (so we are told), and two interested parties stated that they thought it is a Gti, but another stated that the chassis number dates it between December 1975 and March 1976. The Gti did not start until later in 1976, and the truth is we don’t really know the exact date of manufacture or registration.
From the chassis number on the shell it should be possible to obtain the registration document if required, and we will supply paperwork if needed to aide this.
